Welcome to the brand new, colourful website of Durham City Fair Trade Partnership! We exist to promote awareness and usage of Fairtrade around Durham and are delighted that you want to know more! The new look has been created in a bespoke fashion for us by second-year Durham University students, who have done a great job. This thought-provoking quote from Martin Luther King’s 1967 Christmas Sermon on Peace embodies our passion for Fairtrade:
You get up in the morning …then you go into the kitchen to drink your coffee for the morning, and that’s poured into your cup by a South American. And maybe you want tea: that’s poured into your cup by a Chinese. Or maybe you’re desirous of having cocoa for breakfast, and that’s poured into your cup by a West African. And then you reach over for your toast, and that’s given to you at the hands of an English-speaking farmer, not to mention the baker. And before you finish eating breakfast in the morning, you’ve depended on more than half the world.
Please browse, learn, ask questions, and use our info-base to filter through to your everyday life. Anyone with an interest in Fairtrade is welcome to join us. There is a feedback screen to get in contact, and we will reply as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your enthusiasm and interest. By the way, the website has only been in our hands a week or so, so please bear with us as we add all of the content for you.
There’s also a PDF of the new County Durham Fairtrade Directory available to browse through here. The task of adding each entry will take a little longer….good things come to those who wait! We hope you enjoy what you find here.
